Tell us about you and how you would you describe your "art"?

Thato with her affinity for words has grown her song writing muscle and also performs her own songs.

Where are you based?
I'm based in Gaborone, Botswana.

How long have you been making "art" and how did you get started?
4. I've been in the scene since 2008. I began having collaborations with my renowned poet sister Andreattah Chuma at Exodus Live Poetry events and that was when I found my voice in the arts.

Do you come from an artistic background?
My father has always had a rich collection of vinyl records and I have always thought of that as my most important artistic influence. I was raised in a musical atmosphere.

What inspires you? What are your influences (Who or What)?
Artists that embody their art inspire me. That is the ultimate reflection that I believe any artist wants to see themselves in. In what they create.

What is your most proud accomplishment so far?
Featuring in the Groove Cartel album that got airplay in sabc 1's' the afterparty' section was a huge accomplishment. I'm still grateful for that opportunity.

What are your tools for creating?
I definitely write a lot. That is what drives me, the voices I find in everyday life become short stories, poetry and songs.

What sets you apart from the others?
y love for distinct elements in sound. I love exploring sound, and what I can create with the blend of those elements. I believe that is what sets me apart.

Where are you trying to end up? (5 year plan?)
In 5 years I would love to see my music and writing reaching an international audience that truly embraces my art. That is my ultimate dream.

What are your favorite things in life so far?
Mystery, love and music.. those are my favourite things.. anything can be created with their influence.

If we gave you P1M what would you do with it?
If I was given a million pula I would definitely build my own studio. It just makes sense to do that for myself.

Any advice for people trying to do what you do?
My advice to aspiring writers and singers is to see art in everything. That's the greatest way to explore any talent.

Where can people buy/get a hold of your work?
People can get a hold of my work through the features I've done with the artists I've stated above. Also on my youtube channel named Angela Chuma for some original songs I've uploaded.
