K.u.X

I would say I'm a talented young rapper residing in Gabs. My home village is Moshupa (big up to Mosh Town!!). I would describe my rap as a combination of Motswako as well as straight up hip hop. Punch line rapping in my home language and in English is just a bit of what I do.

Tell us about you and how you would you describe your "art"?
I would say I'm a talented young rapper residing in Gabs. My home village is Moshupa (big up to Mosh Town!!). I would describe my rap as a combination of Motswako as well as straight up hip hop. Punch line rapping in my home language and in English is just a bit of what I do.

Where are you based?
Currently based in Gaborone.

How long have you been making "art" and how did you get started?
Honestly I been writing raps since 1998...I was 10 then! one of my realest niggaz of life (LaZzy aka Spike) told me he was finna start a young rap group n if I cud write a sick and authentic verse I would definitely be a part of it. So I went home that afternoon and wrote a verse(even read it to my mum), next day home boy said it was dope and so we started ZonE5 and the rest is history.

Do you come from an artistic background?
No not at all, but I have a 12 year old cousin who's really good on the piano if that counts.

What inspires you? What are your influences (Who or What)?
Mostly I do things to try and make my Mum happy/proud, so I guess in a sense my Mum inspires me a great deal. Other than her I get inspired by good music, good moments and I guess life in general so I'm inspired every day.

What is your most proud accomplishment so far?
I guess because I am not a well established artist there isn't much I can be proud of yet. So itís got to be all the talent show accolades achieved with ZonE5.

What are your tools for creating?
All I need is a beat (and some jay) and I'm good.

What sets you apart from the others?
I suppose it's just the way I am and how I flow that sets me apart from other rappers. I also pride myself of being absolutely real in all my lines.

Where are you trying to end up? (5 year plan?)
I want to be the biggest rapper or artist to ever come out of Africa and eventually be a global sensation.

What are your favorite things in life so far?
My Mum's happiness and health, kicking it with my girlfriend, making music and getting stoned.

If we gave you P1M what would you do with it?
If I had a Million Pula ama act a fool!!!!! Lol! No seriously I would probably invest half of it in the stock exchange somehow and get the monthly or annual interests for as long as I can. The other half I would buy equipment for our studio, get the best video producers for 10 videos at P10 000 apiece. Maybe buy beats from some well known producers out there like Prez Beats or Dj Cleo, though I'm pretty happy with my current producers. Definitely re-up on retail. Then finally put out my album.

Any advice for people trying to do what you do?
The best advice I have is that rappers should try to be as authentic as possible, also be as unique as they can and not do what anyone else is doing. Also be very confident in what you are doing.

Where can people buy/get a hold of your work?
Right now you can catch me in my hood for the most part. If I&@29m not there Iím the studio putting in work. Also a few of my tracks are on Sound Cloud.

How can people get in touch with you?
You can holla at me directly on my celly, that's 75360634, my email accounts are mokgatla88@gmail.com or kkmokgatla@gmail.com. My Facebook page is KuX Mokgatla/facebook.com and my twitter handle is @therealkux and that's about it.

Any thanks or shout outs?
I would like to thank God first and fore-most for giving me my family, and blessing me with this gift to rap so good! I would also like to thank my niggaz for always supporting me and believing in me, especially Spike O.p. My nigga Roots is also one nigga I would like to thank personally many times over for investing his time and a whole lot of his gwap on my artistry, I really appreciate his optimism in what im doing. Shout out to Mike. Big shout outs to my niggaz in block 7 for holding a nigga down especially when its rough, big up Skuda and Jabba Senganga. Big up to Chocy and last but not least R.I.P to my homie of life Aone "AJ" Lekau...we will never forget!!YEAH!!
